Prophet Musa
موسى
Mentioned in over 136 verses across the Quran
Prophet Musa (Moses) is the most-mentioned prophet in the entire Quran — a testament to the profound depth of lessons in his extraordinary life. His story spans decades of hardship, faith, confrontation, and liberation, and it speaks to children and adults alike about what it truly means to trust in Allah.
Musa was born in Egypt at a time of terrible injustice. The Pharaoh — one of the most powerful rulers in history — had decreed that all newborn boys of the Israelites should be killed. Yet Allah had other plans for Musa. His mother, guided by divine inspiration, placed the infant Musa in a basket and set him adrift on the Nile River. The basket floated straight to the palace of Pharaoh, where it was found by Pharaoh's own wife — a woman of great compassion — who convinced her husband to spare the child and raise him as their own.
Young Musa grew up in the very palace of the man who had wanted all Israelite boys killed — a fact unknown to the Pharaoh, guided entirely by Allah. As a young man, Musa witnessed the oppression of his people and eventually had to flee Egypt after coming to the defence of an Israelite man. He journeyed to the land of Madyan, where he settled for years as a shepherd, tending the flocks of a righteous elder. Those quiet years of humble labour — far from palaces and power — shaped Musa into a patient, dependable, and deeply faithful man.
It was on a night journey, on the side of a mountain, that Allah first spoke directly to Musa from a burning bush that was not consumed by its flames. Allah told him: you are a prophet. Go back to Egypt. Free your people from Pharaoh. Musa, knowing how daunting this mission was, asked Allah to strengthen him with the support of his brother Harun. Allah agreed.
What followed was one of history's most dramatic confrontations — a prophet armed only with his staff and his faith, standing before the most powerful ruler on earth. Musa performed miracles. He parted the Red Sea. He led the Israelites to freedom. Throughout it all, his trust in Allah never faltered.
The story of Prophet Musa teaches children that true courage means doing what is right even when it is terrifying, that standing up for justice is a core part of faith, and that Allah is always with those who trust in Him completely.
